Trailer Park for the Rich and Famous: Malibu Mobile Home Hits Auction Block Starting at $2.2 Million

Dr. James Rota's mobile home is up for sale. But this is not a run-of-the-mill mobile home. What makes it unique is where it's located, who lives in the neighborhood and the improvements that have been made – that make it a most un-trailer-like trailer. The mobile home is up for bid on Ebay, starting at $2.2 million.

Malibu, CA (PRWEB) January 29, 2006 -- Dr. Rota’s “trailer” has long been considered the premier home in the most prestigious modular home park in the country, the Point Dume Club in Malibu. The winning bidder on Ebay will conclusively own one of the most desirable mobile homes in the world.

In addition to its unique location, the home itself is special. It has ocean and mountain views from every room. It comes completely furnished and has two fireplaces, arches, marble floors and granite counters. The home is quiet, on a corner lot in a gated community with security patrols. Other extras include a sauna, workshop, deck and garden.

“Never in a million years would you think this is a mobile home. It is luxury through and through, with one of the best views in Malibu,” says Dori Friedland, Director of Public Relations for current owner Dr. James Rota. “Down the road are Barbara Streisand, Anthony Hopkins, Pierce Brosnan, Sally Field and Dick Van Dyke. You see them in the neighborhood.”

Another huge selling point is the taxes. Instead of paying hefty property taxes, Dr. Rota pays $53 in annual DMV renewal fees for his $2.2 million Malibu mobile home.

“Fifteen years ago, everyone thought I was crazy to put hundreds of thousands of dollars into the upgrading of a mobile home,” said Dr. Rota, a retired dentist to some of the biggest icons in the entertainment industry. “I live in one of the most beautiful places in California. The fact that it’s a mobile home offers a gated community with security and privacy – plus no property taxes. Do the math.”

While many banks don’t make loans for mobile homes, Clay Dickens, Vice President of Community West Bank, a financial institution that provides a significant amount of the financing in the Point Dume Club where Dr. Rota’s home is located, says “It’s a no-brainer. The area has been zoned by the California Coastal Commission for mobile homes, so they aren’t going anywhere. This is the last bastion in Southern California of affordable ocean view homes. Similar homes in conventional neighborhoods go for twice the amount, along with hefty property taxes. The mobile homes in this area are good business for us and a great investment for the buyer.”
