Chicago auto accident lawyers at Power, Rogers & Smith won a $10.4 million jury verdict on behalf of the Caletz family for the death of their 9 year-old daughter and injuries to other members of the family suffered during an auto accident.
The lawsuit, The Estate of Crystal Colon, a minor deceased, et al vs. Jesse Blackmon, Transport Carriers, Inc., Robert Lachowski, and American Shipping and Packing, Inc., 99 C 8146, was filed in The United States District Court For the Northern District Of Illinois, according to Stephanie Caletz, Special Administrator of the Estate of Crystal Colon.
“This is a tremendous win for a family that has suffered so much loss and pain as a result of the negligence of others,” says Larry R. Rogers, Sr., who along with a team of personal injury lawyers in Chicago, represented the Caletz family in their accident law claims.
The tragic and fatal auto accident occurred on July 1, 1999 on the ramp exiting the Chicago Skyway. On that day, the plaintiff, Mario Caletz, was traveling with his wife, Stephanie, and their three children, Crystal, 9, Joel, 3, and Brandon, 9 month old. An International tractor, driven by Jesse Blackmon of Transport Carriers, Inc., was also on the same ramp driving in front of Mr. Caletz at that time. At some point, Mr. Blackmon lost control of the tractor forcing Mr. Caletz to maneuver and break in an attempt to avoid hitting the tractor with his Nissan Van. As a result, the Caletz van was rear-ended by a truck driving behind him. The truck was operated by Robert Lachowski of American Shipping and Packing.
Crystal, the family’s 9 year-old daughter, died as a result of her injuries. The Caletz family sought help navigating accident law from Power, Rogers & Smith, one of Chicago’s premier personal injury law firms. After filing suit and months of trial preparation, the highly experienced Chicago auto accident lawyers at Power, Rogers & Smith brought the case in front of a jury, winning a significant $10.4 million jury verdict in U.S. District Court before the Honorable Michael Mason.
