An unexpected door was opened for Smart Site®, a small independent publishing company, when Amazon switched its digital content distribution from Lightning Source to Mobipocket, a mobile eMedia company located in France. According to Smart Site’s founder, Lynn Manning Ross, “Mobile markets are on fire so it was exciting to be accepted as a Mobipocket Conversion Partner after several months of hard work.”
“We thoroughly grasp the dynamics of merging technologies and the value mobile content plays in these new markets. Ironically, converting digital files to fit the different mobile formats is still leading edge and not as easy as it seems. Only a handful of companies offer mobile conversion services and we could not find any that would convert our digital content for a reasonable fee,” said Ross.
“Armed with the stuff that makes entrepreneurs do joyous cartwheels down the hall and seeing an opportunity emerge where none existed, we quickly took action,” Ross points out.
Bankrolled with know-how, Smart Site established contact with Mobipocket, teamed with Butkaj Technology, an European company, and spent the last several months developing Smart Site’s new b2b Mobipocket digital conversion service.
Headed by Butkaj operating under the umbrella of Smart Site, the company has targeted companies like itself in order to broaden their mobile sales base. “We understand publishing and small business, and we think publishers in need of inexpensive conversion services will welcome our b2b service. To my knowledge, we’re a first of its kind,” Ross said.
Smart Site is a 3-year old, wholly owned publishing, management training and consulting company -- “Operating worldwide in a virtual environment©.” Mobipocket is an Amazon company.
