North Hollywood, California (PRWEB) October 3, 2006 -- Alabama royalty will be crowned in North Hollywood, California, in the campy new musical, “Miss Vulcan, 1939”. Commissioned by Summerfest Theatre in Birmingham, “Miss Vulcan, 1939” will have a concert reading to benefit the Academy for New Musical Theatre at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the El Portal Forum Theatre, 5264 North Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood.
Roman myth and 30's Birmingham collide in this zany musical romp, where “ugly” is only in the eye of the beholder. Audience participants assist the cast in telling this (somewhat) true story of a meek dime store clerk who challenges the city's debutantes in a beauty pageant to crown Vulcan's Queen.
“Miss Vulcan, 1939” was written by Marian Partee, book, Jan Powell, music, and Noelle Donfeld, lyrics, and is directed by Michele Spears and musical director Ed Martel. The musical will have its world premiere next summer at Summerfest in Birmingham, Alabama.
