Veteran Producers Jonathan D. Krane and Beau Rogers Take Innovative Feature Film Production and Distribution to The Edge
Award-winning filmmakers partner to form a mini-studio focusing on films with budgets up to ten million dollars.
Los Angeles, CA; Palm Beach Gardens, FL (PRWEB) October 2, 2006 -- There is an art to making feature films with budgets from one to ten million dollars look like big budget productions…and a science to financing such films and making a significant profit from them. But there are very few filmmakers who have been able to do it all.
Enter esteemed producer Jonathan D. Krane (44 films, including the Look Who’s Talking trilogy, Primary Colors, Face/Off, Swordfish, Blind Date, Phenomenon and former head of his own highly successful studio MCEG) and innovative film financier Beau Rogers (44 films, including Executive Producer of Academy Award-winning Gods and Monsters) who have recently teamed to form the new independent film entity The Edge. The bi-coastal company is based in both Los Angeles, California and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Built upon the respective partners’ proven track records, The Edge was established to serve as a mini-studio dedicated to the financing, production and worldwide distribution of theatrical quality feature films. The initial plan calls for the company to produce three to five films per year for the next five years with budgets ranging between one and ten million dollars. The company will also focus on the most popular and commercially viable genres, such as fish-out-of-water comedies and character-driven action films and thrillers. The principals of The Edge may also be retained as consultants on developing key projects.
“There is a definite void in the industry for a company like The Edge which is set to serve as a home for smaller budgeted films that have the potential to generate big-budget results,” said Krane, who among his many accolades was responsible for turning a seven million dollar film entitled Look Who’s Talking into a 450 million dollar blockbuster and three film franchise. “The Edge is committed to facilitating the production and worldwide distribution of a unique brand of films that have both theatrical and home entertainment potential.”
The powerful duo also plans to raise funds for its films through a variety of financing opportunities including everything from hedge funds to foreign financing and tax incentives.
“For more than 30 years, I have made it my business to stay not only on top of the ever-changing world of raising financing for feature films but to stay one step ahead of the competition,” said Rogers. “Through our shared vision, expertise and commitment to revolutionizing the industry, I look forward to working closely with Jonathan Krane on building a new and unique go to independent film company.”
In addition to The Edge, Krane continues to serve as CEO of The Krane Group. Krane also founded “The Krane Academy” in Palm Beach County, Florida and authored the book “A Revolutionary Approach to the Art and Science of Moviemaking: A Treatise on Fixing the Accidental Industry.” An advocate of education, Krane has also taught at the UCLA Extension program, founded and funded the USC “First Look” film festival and has conducted numerous independent seminars across the country.
