Film Festivals Worldwide are Addicted to The Boys' And Girls' Guide To Getting Down
LA Film Festival standout hits Film Fest circuit -- including Raindance (London), Cackalacky (Charlotte, NC), Hamptons (Long Island) and AIFF (Melbourne).
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 2, 2006 -- Fresh off of its sold-out world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June 2006 and its subsequent success at the LA Indie Awards in August, The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide to Getting Down is bringing the Hollywood club culture to film festivals all over the world during the fall of 2006, it was announced today by writer-director Paul Sapiano. The award-winning film, which counts among its accolades the Grand Jury Prize for Best Indie Film and the Audience Award at the LA Indies, will screen throughout September and October at various film festivals including the Raindance Film Festival, the Hamptons International Film Festival, the Cackalacky Film Festival, and the Australian International Film Festival.
First up for the wildly popular film which imparts sage partying lessons in the form of an old-school how-to motivational reel is the 14th Annual Raindance Film Festival which takes place September 29 – October 8, 2006 in London. Known throughout the world as “the voice of indie film,” the festival known for ‘discovering’ independent favorites such as Memento and The Blair Witch Project will allow filmmaker Sapiano to showcase his writing and directorial debut in his home country of England. The film will screen on October 7, a Saturday night appropriately enough, in Piccadilly Circus.
Following Raindance, The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide to Getting Down is scheduled to screen twice at the star-studded 14th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival, once each on October 21 and 22. The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide is also set to participate in the inaugural Cackalacky Film Festival in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a screening slated for October 19. Both the Hamptons and Cackalacky Film Festivals take place October 18 – 22.
The highly sought-after film will also travel down under to Melbourne with two screenings at the Australian International Film Festival from October 21 – 30. The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide’s addition to the film lineup represents an adherence to the festival’s founding principles, to bridge the gap between the alternative film scene and the commercial cinema experience, appealing to a broad range of moviegoers.
“The overwhelming support that The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide is getting from film festivals worldwide shows that while the film is set at clubs and parties in Hollywood, the central themes of booze sex, drugs, debauchery and overall fun are universal,” said Sapiano.
Hailed as “a spot-on depiction of modern hipster party life” and “one of the best party movies ever” by Film Threat, The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide to Getting Down follows a group of young, attractive clubgoers as they navigate the Hollywood hangouts on the Cahuenga corridor. The slick, stylized party flick takes a tongue-in-cheek stance as a how-to guide, delivering lessons on driving drunk and offering tutorials on getting past the bouncer at over-hyped trendy clubs. Complete with faux laboratory experiments and graphics from award-winning artist Larimie Garcia, the film was executive produced and edited by Enrique Aguirre.
The critical acclaim surrounding The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide to Getting Down has earned Paul Sapiano and his team recognition from the public, the filmmaking industry and its insiders. After fielding offers from the top talent agencies in town, Sapiano has recently signed with International Creative Management, Inc.
