About the Author:
Zykeya McLeod lives in the heart of the Big Apple, Brooklyn, where she attends Middle School by day. In her passtime she enjoys activities such as playing Double Dutch with her younger sister and friends. Some other talents that she’s mastered is the ability to play the piano, sing, dance, and act.
Synopsis:
A young Princess loses her mother to a sudden death. While overcome by feelings of loneliness and dismay she is forced to live with her physically abusive cousin Olivia.
It’s sometimes hard being a child, but even harder when you’ve lost your mom. Quick-witted she reaches out for help and is rescued by her loving Aunt Nina.
The book An Inner Child Speaks is “a message in a bottle” that should be heeded, and Ms. McLeod has designed this with the hope that more of these stories come out so that the abuse can stop.
12-year old Zykeya McLeod, author of An Inner Child Speaks is signing copies of her book & will host ‘Story Time’ on Saturday September 30th, 2 PM, at Hue-Man Bookstore, 2319 Frederick Douglass Blvd. (8th Ave.) bet. 124th & 125th Street in Harlem. She is owner of UCANSPEAKUP which encourages all children to “speak out” about social issues they are facing.
Additionally, Zykeya is co-owner of Zy Iman Publishing, the publishing company that published her first book. Be on the look out for her 2nd book in 2007.
Zykeya took part in District 13’s 2006 Literacy Fair, C & B Books Annual Queens Book Fair 2006, and Bernice Walker’s 2006 Gospel Explosion; where she was honored.
She was also featured on 98.7 KISS FM ‘Open Line’ Spot Lite’ with Bob Slade, Judge Bob Pickett, and James Mtume. Zykeya will also be at the Harlem Book Fair on Long Island at 5pm on Saturday September 30, 2006.
