Harvest Moon Festival is the second most important holiday after the Chinese New Year. People around the world will watch the moon knowing their missed family member, loved ones, and friends are also watching and thinking of each other. The legend of Chang-Er (the lady in the moon) is told. Dinner special offer to celebrate this event.

(PRWEB) October 1, 2006 -- The Moon festival also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is the second most important holiday after the Chinese New Year, celebrated by the Chinese people around the world. It is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar moon in observation of the Autumn harvest (in a way similar to the American Thanksgiving).

After the dinner feast the families are gathered around the yard to observe the believed to be the brightest and roundest moon of the year. While eating the festival moon cake and drinking tea the family will talk, and think about family members, loved ones, or friends who are not present but everyone know they are somewhere else in this world observing this same moon and thinking of each other. The legend of the Chang-Er is usually told by the elders to the children during this evening.

Once upon a time there was a famous archer, Hou Yi, who was married to a beautiful young girl named Chang-Er. During that time there were ten suns taking turns circling the earth, one day at a time. One day all ten suns came out and scorched the earth and killed plants and animals. Hou Yi noticed this so he took out his arrows and shot down these suns one by one. By the time he was ready to shoot the ninth sun, his wife, Chang-Er pulled on his arrow and cause him to only harm the sun instead of destroying it.

The wounded sun has later became the moon. For the success of his saving man-kind Hou Yi was awarded with the position of a king and a pill of immortality which he saved for later use. Hou Yi was a hero before he was made a king, now he has power he changed to be quite tyrannical. In order to save the peasants from suffering under her tyrannical husband Chang-Er decided to eat this immortal pill herself. Upon eating this pill she felt herself to be lighter and lighter and eventually floated out of her window, went to the sky and reached the moon, or the wounded sun that she saved. Even today everyone can see Chang-Er dancing on the moon if you look close enough at the moon on the 15th day of the eighth lunar moon.
