San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 2, 2006 -- "Eruption" is one of the selected works of German artist Petra Voegtle to be displayed at the Lyceum Theatre Gallery as part of The Art of Digital Show in San Diego. The exhibition will be open Oct 6 - Nov 19, 2006.

Juror for this show was Hugh Davies, Director of the Museum for Contemporary Art in San Diego. 2730 entries from 32 countries were sent for this competition and only 100 were selected to be displayed at the elegant Lyceum Theatre Gallery in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter. Curator of The Art of Digital Show is Steven Churchill who produced the world's first computer animation film festival in 1986 at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla, California.

About the work:
Voegtle's "Eruption" shown at The Art of Digital Show is a photograph which has been transformed digitally into a piece of artwork: http://www.angelfire.com/art2/vyala_arts/photoart/eruption.html

Voegtle uses brush, carving knife and other tools for her work and often her camera lens produces the images of nature which are the framework for her art. Photography intrigued her to manipulate what the eye depicts from nature and to incorporate ideas from pure imagination into another reality. The bark of an old tree becomes the eruption of time in an era where no-one seems to hold anything in high esteem.

Extensive travels to southeast Asian countries influenced Voegtle's early art style. She began to explore the figures of Asian myths, incorporating them into her own imagery, wood carving and silk painting and her travel photography became photo art.
Voegtle's current work focuses on painting, still using fragments from her early explorations but also themes from nature and society. Her work continues to travel the world and seeks to reach people's minds.
