Sabrina Houssami Wins Miss World AsiaPacific 2006 in Miss World Competition

Sabrina Houssami, a Sydney University student bidding to become the second Australian woman to win the famous Miss World pageant has been awarded winner of Miss World AsiaPacific and second runner up in the Miss World Competition Final.

(PRWEB) October 2, 2006 -- With a record number of contestants and an innovative new voting system, Miss World 2006 made television history tonight, as the public choose six new Miss World ambassadors and crowned the new Miss World 2006.

More than just a beauty pageant, Miss World contestants are assessed on athletic prowess, intelligence, talent, deportment and a healthy body image sporting a swimsuit. The Miss World “Beauty with a Purpose” focus ensures that they are also measured on their contribution to charities

Tatana Kucharova, Miss World Czech Republic, an 18-year-old high school student, took the Miss World crown. Miss Romania, Ioana Valentina Boitor, was first runner-up, followed by our very own Sabrina Houssami. The Beauty with a Purpose Award going to Miss World Ghana, a nurse in her home country.

Sabrina states, “I am thrilled to be announced Miss World AsiaPacific and so happy to have been recognised in the top 3 of the Miss World and Beauty with a Purpose competition. The last Australian Miss World Winner was Belinda Green in 1972. Miss World – The Final is the World’s largest live annual TV event with global viewing figures topping two billion across more than 200 countries.

Sabrina will return to Australia to crown the first Australian Mr World and will appear as the face of the charity, Challenge at the VRC Spring Cup Racing Carnival. Sabrina has already helped to raise more than $1.2M for Australian charities including the Carabez Alliance, Life Education Australia, Red Cross, Variety and Astara Angels.

Don't miss the official crowning of Miss World to be aired on Arena TV Australia today, Sunday, October 1 at 1pm. A press conference will be held on the 10th October 2006 on Sabrina’s return to Australia at Sydney’s International Airport.

Whilst Sabrina waves the Australian flag high in Poland, Australian men between the ages of 27 and 18 are now registering for the inaugural Mr World Competition finals. Celebrating 100 years of Surf Lifesaving at the North Steyne Surf Lifesaving Club on Sunday 22nd October, 2006, the Winner of this prestigious competition will be crowned by Sabrina and flown to Sanya China where he will compete in a month long series of extreme sports in November.
