This one-day speaker series will feature renowned industry veterans sharing trade tips (do’s & don’ts) for the beginner to the professional plus model who is interested in starting or advancing her plus model career. Some of the ProjectCURVES™ sponsors include CurvyChick.com/Bombshell Magazine, an online fashion and lifestyle magazine that caters to plus-size women 14 and up. Venus Imaging, an online portal for inspiring, celebrating and connecting curvy women and teens with size friendly resources and companies. And Igigi, an apparel company creating unique, fashion-forward, stylish and great fitting clothes specifically for the plus-size woman.
Plus size fashion is a rapidly growing industry. With more than 68% of the average female population wearing size 12 or above and a spending power of $32 billion dollars, (according to Kat Fay, a retail analyst at the Chicago research group Mintel) more and more designers are adding plus lines to their existing collections, and in 2007 a couple of new magazines geared towards the plus-size women’s market will launch and create greater opportunities for plus models. Fashion plus modeling can include magazine covers / layouts representing manufacturers in print advertisements, or walking the catwalk for designers or major retailers. The “curvy & fabulous” model needs to be well informed in order to prosper in this newly expanding competitive market.
The Atlanta ProjectCURVES™ event will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center from 8:30am-4:00pm. After the workshop, The ProjectCURVES™ producers will host the largest plus size networking event to ever hit Atlanta, GA from 6:00pm-10:00pm, featuring Exhibitors of products for the plus size consumer, a runway fashion show and the exclusive screening of “Big Boned Women”, a new documentary that celebrates the lives of plus size women, produced by Yolanda Zellous, CEO, Zellyo Productions. The Networking and Fashion Show event will provide an opportunity for people to come and meet plus size models, agents and fashion industry experts as well as make new friends and contacts during this informal evening soiree. In addition, the attendees can purchase discounted designer clothing and products just for the plus size fashion consumer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and partial proceeds from the Networking Reception will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
