(PRWEB) October 6, 2006 -- This winter sees the launch of the world’s first ever coaster system at the newly refurbished five-star Tschuggen Grand Hotel in the Swiss alpine resort of Arosa, Switzerland. The project, following six years of development, is an innovative transport system connecting the Tschuggen Grand Hotel to the heart of Arosa’s mountain ski slopes.
Travelling at five metres per second, passengers will be carried from the hotel to the Tschuggenhutte in the heart of the Arosa mountain range in two heated, fully-automatic, six seat coasters with panoramic views.
The system, considered to be the most advanced in the world, consists of two self-propelled, battery-operated coaster units that produce no emissions as they climb 150 metres across a 500 metre-long strut-supported railway line. The line, which replaces the shuttle bus service, optimally blends into the environment and is invisible from Inner Arosa.
The Tschuggen Coaster will also benefit the non-skier, who can take one of the many walking routes available (Arosa is acclaimed for Nordic walking) or enjoy a hot chocolate and mountain views at one of Arosa’s popular ski huts.
Along with the launch of the Tschuggen Coaster, the hotel unveils the long-awaited Bergoase Spa, created by world-renowned architect Mario Botta. The CHF 35 million Tschuggen Bergoase is set within a mountain at a height of 1800 metres above sea level, and is linked to the Tschuggen Grand Hotel by a glass bridge. Spread over four floors and 3,500sqm in size, the Tschuggen Bergoase promises to be one of the most innovative spa projects in the world. The Tschuggen Grand Hotel’s rooms and suites have also been redesigned by renowned Swiss interior designer, Carlo Rampazzi, famous for his creativity with colour, pattern and light.
The 133 room five-star Tschuggen Grand Hotel is located within the south eastern town of Arosa – hailed as one of Switzerland’s best kept secrets. The resort is a stunning mountain destination, offering an exceptional setting where the mountains enclose an unspoiled natural area at an altitude of 1800 – 2650 metres above sea level.
The region of Arosa offers ideal conditions for intermediate skiers with 60 km of pistes and 40 km of off-pistes (mostly blue and red). Being the penultimate resort along the valley, Arosa also manages to avoid large coach groups and day visits, meaning no long queues at the ski lifts and idyllic clear ski runs even at weekends.
The exclusive mountain town of Arosa is best reached via Zurich. Trains run frequently from Zurich to Chur. From Chur there is a mountain train up to Arosa which is a steep and very scenic climb taking 60 minutes.
The Tschuggen Grand Hotel will open for the ski season from 1st December 2006 until the 15th April 2007.
