James Alexander, Former U.S. Congressional Page, Releases His First Novel: 'Miami Confidential' on Amazon.com
Gritty fiction novel set in Miami Florida during the time of the Mariel boatlift and the Miami Riots.
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) October 9, 2006 -- Miami Confidential begins in the middle class drug scene of Miami in the early 1980’s. It is written in the point of view of the main character as he delves deeper, step by step, into the vortex of Miami’s underworld until his very survival becomes issue. The past that led him here is revealed in flashbacks during his downward-heading escapades. His musings about Miami reveal its own transformation from sleepy suburbia to a burning, riot-torn metropolis, a crossroads of cultures where violence, drugs, and voodoo are evidence of its having grown up too fast.
This is not the sub-tropical wonderland of travel posters; we are enticed, along with our insider, bit by bit, as he finds himself among a streaming cast of characters that descend from the friendly to devious to murderous.
We are in a pretty place for a terrifying time. The cover art reveals the dual nature of the work; beauty is shadowed by darkness. At first, the attractive pastels of the sea-green ocean cradling the colorful skyline of the city below crystal blue sky; then, the party-colored letters MIAMI across the skies are enveloped in the thick flume of black smoke coming from the corner of the city stamped at a diagonal by the bold block letters of CONFIDENTIAL.
This story is a ticket to a run-away train. At first, we are amused, and, along with our anti-hero, seduced by pleasure and excitement until this world turns on us, revealing it’s darker edge. This is truly the ultimate “how not to” drug tale.
