Online Social Networking for Outdoor Athletes

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) October 5, 2006 –- Colorado-based startup Get Out Sports Inc. has just announced the launch of Thoos (http://thoos.com), a new social networking website dedicated to outdoor sports enthusiasts. Thoos is a place for runners, cyclists, climbers, skiers, hikers, kayakers, paragliders, surfers, and fly fisherman to post and find information, and meet people with the same interests.
Membership and use of all content on Thoos is free to the public. Each member can create their own profile page complete with a personal bio. In addition to the bio, a member can also include photos, save custom created route maps, and record their personal best times for runs, hikes, climbs, and bike rides. Members can also create a Friends List to keep up with what their friends are doing.
Other social tools on Thoos include:
- The Thoos 'Partner Finder' tool allows people to find old friends or meet new ones. This feature is a free service open to anyone looking for partners interested in training, travel, friendship, adventure, dating, or nothing in particular.
- A 'Goals' tool helps people find other people with similar goals and accomplishments. Members can save goals for future motivation and leave comments or encouragement for others.
- A 'Groups' tool allows anyone start their own group, search for local groups, or review their favorite groups/clubs.
- A 'Maps' tool lets site people draw custom maps creating routes of their favorite runs, hikes, or bike rides. Members can then save the maps and share them with friends.
In addition to social features of the site, Thoos hosts a large database of places and events of interest to outdoor athletes. From hiking across the Grand Canyon, skiing in Colorado, running the Boston Marathon, or thousands of other outdoor adventures, you can find it on Thoos. As all content is user-generated, members have the ability to edit virtually any page on the site or leave comments on their own personal experience. Visitors can also add their own favorite places or events, get current weather forecasts, real-time stream flows, and (coming soon) snow conditions.
