Online Poker Sites That Still Accept US Customers
In light of a bill passed late Friday night that will attempt to curb online poker through banking institutions, some online poker sites no longer accept US customers. Here are some that do.
Miami Beach, FL (PRWEB) October 6, 2006 -- Many online poker players residing in the U.S. woke up Monday morning to discover they were no longer allowed to play at such popular online poker rooms as PartyGaming, 888.com and Titan Poker, just to name a few.
A bill sailing through Congress during the late night hours of Friday looks to curb online poker by enforcing a "coding system" that would otherwise make it difficult for online poker companies to engage in business with financial institutions. The new law would not make it illegal to gamble over the internet and the banking sector has already announced they will be unable to incorporate such a "coding" system for electronic checks, bank wires and debit card transactions any time soon.
As could be expected, a number of big name online poker sites have left the US market prematurely including PartyPoker, which maintained close to 50% of the online poker market. PartyPoker and some other online poker sites trade publicly on the London Stock Exchange and had no other choice but to leave the US market as a means of appeasing shareholders. Privately held companies do not have to answer to shareholders.
As such, Gambling911.com, which has been covering this event 24/7 ever since the bill passed through Congress and has become the leading source for internet poker news as it happens, continues to endorse online poker sites that intend to continue taking on US customers indefinitely.
