Cerise Grant Approved, Life Science Research Planned

Cerise Nutraceuticals LC receives grant for life science research and marketing of its unique products that combine the antioxidants of cherries with Omega 3 essential fatty acids in emu oil (kalaya) and fish oil.

Cerise Nutraceuticals will receive a $100,000 grant from the Julian-Stille Value Added Agricultural Fund under the Michigan Department of Agriculture, approved this week by the state administrative board. The grant will fund research and marketing for nutraceuticals made from red tart cherries, said Cerise President Raymond M. Pleva.

“The research will scientifically validate the nature and extent of active compounds delivered by Cerise products,” Pleva said. “The data will be used in our marketing program to target the segments where our products can deliver the greatest effects. We see this as a first step toward further research and market penetration of cherry-based products in the nutraceutical sector. This will be a major new market for the cherry industry.”

Cerise is currently negotiating a contract with the Central Michigan University Research Corporation for a research project. CMURC scientists are working on similar projects with the National Institutes of Health.

Nearly two decades of Cherryology preclinical research have confirmed the beneficial properties of compounds in Cerise products, including anti-inflammatory effects of the 17 antioxidants found in cherries and the protective effects of Omega 3, 6, and 9 essential fatty acids in emu (kalaya) oil and fish oil.
