The Chartered Institute of Marketing held their most successful South-West event to date last week where over a hundred South West businesses descended on the Core building at the Eden Project for the 'Searching for the Future of Marketing' seminar.

Feedback from attendees has been overwhelming, this is by far our most well received event ever. The CIM are really looking forward to rolling out a programme of events for 2007

The event which was held on Wednesday 4th October aimed to question the future of effective marketing by joining three specialist speakers from separate fields of expertise and kicked off with the Eden Project's flamboyant Strategic Marketing Director, David Meneer, who opened the evening with his perspective on the fundamental principles of marketing and incites into how communications at Eden have shifted over the past 7 years.

Expert Edward 'Teddie' Cowell from local Search Engine Marketing agency Neutralize who also sponsored the event, then explained the phenomenal rise of the Internet as a marketing channel in recent years, with statistics released last week revealing that Internet advertising is just 1% behind national press. His presentation explained some of the top-level concepts about Internet marketing, arguing why search engines in various forms are at the heart of the Internet and it's success.

Finally, guest speaker Michael Nutley, editor of New Media Age magazine who had flown down specially from London and arrived minutes before he was due to go on, wowed the audience with his knowledge of 'long-tail' theory and communities, and discussed their influence on marketing.

The event was a great success - Katy Davidson, Marketing Manager at Sand Resort Newquay, commented;

"I attended the event and loved it. It confirmed a lot of the experimental marketing and SEO I'm doing."

Other guests' comments concurred with Nigel Carpenter, Proprietor of St Michael's Hotel and Spa, who added;

"The CIM event was well produced and informative with excellent speakers. I look forward to more events like this in the future- this can only help keep Cornish management at the forefront of best practice and new trends"

Organiser Sue Windley from the Chartered Institute of Marketing Cornwall and Devon Branch was also delighted with the event, saying;

"Feedback from attendees has been overwhelming, this is by far our most well received event ever. The CIM are really looking forward to rolling out a programme of events for 2007"
