The Do-It Yourself Home Sale Sweeps Canadian Market: PropertySold.ca Hits 100,000 Monthly Visitors

For Sale by Owner, or FSBO as it is known, is a growing phenomenon in the Canadian real estate market, and PropertySold.ca is proud to announce its direct home sale listings now receive 100,000 visitors each month.

(PRWEB) October 9, 2006 -- As the ‘For Sale By Owner’ (FSBO) model continues to grow in the real estate market, www.PropertySold.ca, one of the leading online businesses assisting Canadian homeowners to sell their homes directly, proudly announces it now receives monthly traffic of 100,000 visitors.

This do-it-yourself approach to home sales is becoming increasingly popular in Canada. FSBO, as it is known, eliminates real estate agents from the sale of homes, allowing homeowners to pocket what typically amounts to thousands in commission fees.

Developed in 2004, PropertySold.ca now counts nearly 400 active listings across Canada (view listings at http://www.propertysold.ca/homesforsale.php), attracting some 3300 visitors daily.

According to figures from the Real Estate Journal, approximately 18 per cent of sellers use the For Sale By Owner method, and this, according the PropertySold President Michael Lawrence, is adding up to big savings for their customers.

“Thus far in 2006 we have saved our clients roughly $1.3 million in real estate agent commissions,” says Mr Lawrence, whose business has recently been featured on CBC’s the Hour, BusinessWeek and BankRate.

“The buzz of “For Sale By Owner” as a keyword is definitely a growing phenomenon both among the masses and the media,” he notes. “As more people are successful selling our industry stands to grow since we are really about saving people money.”

The principles are simple: by providing customers with a forum in which to showcase their properties, professional marketing tools, and sound advice on all aspects of the sale including preparation, pricing and presentation, the need for a seller agent can be eliminated. (Sellers can find a breakdown of services available at http://www.propertysold.ca/sellers.php).

Real estate fees in Canada are generally set at five to seven per cent of the sales price, and for many homeowners, the prospect of keeping an additional $10-15,000 in pocket is well-worth taking on the role of seller.

“When using our services the person becomes their own real estate agent,” explains Mr Lawrence. “We are an exposure vehicle as well as a tools provider.”

This common-sense approach has seen PropertySold’s visitor traffic grow from just 6000 visitors in September 2005, to nearly 100,000 in September 2006. Much of this success can be attributed to a solid, client-first approach to business.

“We study our competitors and the services they offer,” says Mr Lawrence, “listen to our growing customer base on what they would like to see added to the site, and focus on trying to provide as much exposure to the listings we are promoting rather than our own name… which I think shines through both in our signs and our website design.”
