Native Teen Urban Crank Music Group "Profound Intent" emerges with a fresh and positive approach on their new single "Time 2 Shine" in which they make their recording debut. The teen trio Larry "LaPret" Pretlow II (17, Rapper/Songwriter), Jahnae "Misty" Johnson (16, Lead Singer), and youngest Devan "Lil'Ace" Brockenberry (14, Singer) aim to positively influence all youth to be better individuals of society.
"Time 2 Shine" introduces Profound Intent as teenagers in today's music industry who refuse to become a gimmick for a major recording label or producer as stated in LaPret's intro-rap "Yo I refuse to be taken hostage by this corrupted industry, see I ain't afraid to do what ain't selling fifty and B [as in 50 Cent and Beyonce]." Opening the song with that first line of his rap LaPret who wrote the single says, "Time 2 Shine is a single that's going to have a lot to do with the development of the new music industry of tomorrow, after we revamp today's youth by setting the more positive trends." The groups Lead Singer Misty who follows with, "I refuse to be a puppet on a string, just because I'm 16 doesn't mean I'm naive," says about the song, "That line is in reference to the stereotype of the 'bubble gum act' and the 'stupid girl' as best said by Pink."
The message is clearly heard on the record, proving that Profound Intent has a unique yet productive method of reaching today's youth and the music industry. This is something that most performers are struggling with today. With a single that is optimistic of both "professional" and "underground" chart success, we can say that Profound Intent will definitely be here to stay. As rising trendsetters of a new music industry emerging from D.C. (the forgotten south city, the District of Crank) P.I. will make "Time 2 Shine" an anthem for today's youth and a slogan of tomorrow's adults. "Our ultimate purpose and goal is to influence all youth to be better individuals at a time when our society needs positive changes and trends the most," says LaPret.
The single was produced by OP BEATS and recorded at Night Flight Recording Studios in Fort Washington, Maryland. "Time 2 Shine" was originally slated to be produced by the late Hip-Hip figure and music producer Raymond Brown known professionally as Scottie Beats, but he was killed in a dispute by a tow truck driver. Brown who was an engineer at Night Flight Recording Studios was to work with Profound Intent as an engineer on their forthcoming album "Oooh On The P.I. Tip." "That would have been a great honor to work with someone so respected by his peers. Scottie Beats was a trendsetter," says LaPret.
Profound Intent is slated to release an album in March 2007 entitled "Oooh On The P.I. Tip" paying homage to TLC. "We decided to name this first recording project 'Oooh On The P.I. Tip' because we remind a lot of people of the early TLC (made of two singers and a rapper). They somewhat had a positive influence on youth geared towards sex in the early 90's. P.I. is geared towards overall influencing youth to be better individuals of society. We are introducing them to an alternative to drinking, smoking, violence, and sex. That alternative is setting standards and goals for yourself, not giving up, cherishing your life, and respecting society," says Ace.
The release of their debut recording and single just add on to Profound Intent's list. The trio who are self-proclaimed positive advocates for youth have already delivered youth encouragement speeches, spoken word performances, and participated in various volunteer and youth activities in their hometown community. "Gaining supporters and fans across the USA will definitely help us schedule visits to other communities across the country," says Misty.
Profound Intent's debut single "Time 2 Shine" will release to USA radio-airwaves on November 27, 2006. Mr. Cooley Pegues whose wife Mrs. Deshaunn Pegues serves as the groups Administer of Affairs (AA) currently manages the trio.
