The Shoot Out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival Boulder Announces Call for Team Entries

The Shoot Out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival Boulder challenges participants of all experience levels to use their courage, imagination and determination to make a seven-minute film in just 24 hours.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) October 10, 2006 -- The 24-hour fast-film competition known as The Shoot Out Boulder, today announced a call for team entries. The Shoot Out Boulder, which takes place Oct 20 to 22, is the only annual 24-hour competition of its kind in the United States. The Shoot Out Boulder challenges participants of all experience levels to use their courage, imagination and determination to make a seven-minute film in just 24 hours.

"Fast filmmaking is an entirely new category of filmmaking, and is not just limited to professionals, but open to everyone, from families to students to retirees," says Michael Conti, executive director of The Shoot Out Boulder. “Boulder is the ideal place to have an annual 24-hour filmmaking contest," he says. "It has almost everything you might find on a Hollywood backlot. One of the festival requirements is that the filmmaker must use 5 of the 11 items or locations we give out, and we are never at a loss to find unique items to include. Boulder makes it easy.”

The 24-hour film-making period will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 20, in front of the Boulder County Courthouse on the 1300 block of the Pearl Street Mall. The contest will end at 24 hours later at the same spot. On Sunday, October 22, the Top 10 films will be officially unveiled and premiered at the Boulder Theater. At the end of the evening, category prizes will be awarded to each winning team. Prizes will vary. In a separate category, actors will be competing for “The Shooting Star” award, which entails starring in as many short films as possible in 24 hours. Tickets are available to the general public at the Boulder Theater box office, and the doors open at 6 p.m.

In 2005, Michael Brown’s film “Altered Dates” received a Top 10 ranking. Brown, who has reached the top of Mount Everest three times, said, “Participating in The Shoot Out Boulder was a great experience. It was an epic 24 hours, and making a fast film was both a rewarding challenge and a great deal of fun. It’s wonderful to have such a one-of-a-kind filmmaking contest right here in Boulder.”

Entry fees vary, from $50 for participants ages 17 and under, to $100 for participants ages 18 and over. Each additional team member is $20 (if age 17 and under) or $25 (if age 18 or over). There is a discounted rate for families. Included in the entry fee is a ticket to the awards ceremony at the Boulder Theater. Interested parties should sign-up at http://www.theshootoutboulder.com

Payments must be mailed by Wednesday, October 18, or paid online by midnight Thursday, October 19. After that time entry forms and payment must be delivered in person on Friday, October 20 between 6 and 8:30 p.m. at the sign-in booth, which will be located in front of the Boulder County Courthouse on the 1300 block of the Pearl Street Mall.

In its inaugural launch in 2004, over 150 teams made up of students, families and professionals participated in The Shoot Out Boulder. The top films from previous events have been shown at Boulder Adventure Film Festival, Boulder International Film Festival, Moondance Film Festival, Toofy Film Festival, International Film Series at CU-Boulder, the Starz Film Center in Denver, The Shoot Out Australia and New Zealand, and at The Colorado Music Festival.

About The Shoot Out Boulder
The Shoot Out Boulder's mission is to break through artistic inertia and audience indifference by providing an exceptional creative venue for artistic expression through film.

The Shoot Out - the first ever '24 Hour' filmmaking festival - was held in Newcastle, Australia in 1999. By luring filmmakers to Newcastle with a cash prizes for the best film, The Shoot Out kicked off with 105 entries in its first year. This was an extraordinary result for a totally original and untried event. Since then, The Shoot Out has continued to grow exponentially. The Shoot Out now takes place in five cities: Newcastle, Geelong, Toowoomba (Australia), Hamilton (New Zealand) and Boulder (Colorado, USA).
