Bureau Translations (http://www.bureautranslations.com), a global translation office, has partnered with Catalytic Communities (http://www.catcomm.org) a Brazilian-American NGO, in order to further their commitment towards social transformation.
Catalytic Communities was born out of the idea that different communities come up with a wide variety of extremely innovative ideas and solutions, that if shared, could mutually catalyze their development. Theresa Williamson, Catalytics Community founder and executive director, graduated from Swarthmore College four years before her fellow alumn Gabriel Fairman. Only in Brazil, several years later, were they to meet and find a common ground for development. Bureau Translations is founded on a solid core of ethics that sees in the corporation an opportunity for profound social transformation, not by re-allocating exploitative profits to the community, but by practicing business in a sustainable and transformative way.
The search for social transformation through different ways has brought together these two companies, hopefully bringing about a new wave of synergetic and catalytic transformation.
CatComm realizes the intense creative potential within different kinds of communities. In Rio, for instance, some communities managed to grow completely free from drug dealing and consumption, others developed their own sewage treatment completely independent from the government, and others still developed their own educational methods: how did they do this? These communities have overcome the government neglect in order to take care of their own issues and resolve their own needs. By sharing their experiences and solutions not only at a local level through exchanges during meetings between community members but also at a global level through a global database of experiences and solutions, CatComm acts as a disseminator of ideas that bring about direct social transformation.
Bureau Translations, has been delivering translations and localizations in over twenty languages for more than twenty-five years. It acknowledges that practicing business is not just maximizing profits, but acting as a person within a business community. Within such belief, Bureau Translations seeks to form long-lasting, stable and mutually profitable relationships with all the members of its communties, whether, clients, translators or employees. Rather than extracting profits at whatever cost, to later donate some of these profits to the community, Bureau Translations seeks to practice business in a way that positively transforms the lives of those who are part of this business community. Whether practicing compassion, kindness, love, or understanding, Bureau Translations recognizes every small action, is the seed for future seas of existence. In that, it is ethically rooted towards collaboratively building clear, healthy and beautiful seas.
While Bureau Translations will provide CatComm with translations of their projects which will give them greater reach, CatComm will help propagate the work and mission of Bureau Translations. It is hoped that this partnership will strengthen these two different methods towards dissemination of positive social transformation and change.
