Trident Systems Inc. Awarded a $2.8M Contract to Develop and Fly a Family of UAV-mounted Payloads for the Global War on Terror and Force Protection
Drawing on its expertise in signal processing and small electronics, Trident Systems -- www.tridsys.com -- has been selected to develop a family of interoperable sensor and communications payloads. These will support ground operations in the Global War on Terror by giving the ability to see through darkness, bad weather and tree canopies to find threats on the ground; to communicate across broad geographic distances; and to support the real-time fusion of multi-sensor data in ways typically available only to larger unmanned platforms.
Fairfax, VA (PRWEB) October 24, 2006 -- Trident Systems -- www.tridsys.com -- has been awarded this contract by a major Naval Air organization to develop a new family of sensor and payload systems for small and tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). According to Trident founder and CEO Nick Karangelen, “Trident is focusing on the development payloads for small UAVs, which fits into the evolving needs of the Global War on Terror. Great companies like Advanced Ceramics Research, inSitu, and others are building reliable small UAVs. Now what’s needed is a range of payloads which can respond to the unique tactical situations where these UAVs are employed. Coupled with our work in small-UAV foliage penetrating radar, this new program will allow us to provide a mission-reconfigurable family of payloads.”

Outfitted with Trident's UAV-mounted SAR radar, imaging systems, and communications relay systems, ground forces will be able to learn more about their environment, and communicate this situational awareness faster and more effectively, without putting American forces in harm’s way.
The work will be conducted at Trident’s Fairfax headquarters and at the company’s facility in Redlands, CA, over the next eighteen months.
