Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) October 11, 2006 -- Virgo Publishing LLC, publishers of xchange, PHONE+ and New Telephony magazines, announced today it has named veteran telecom and IT industry journalist Bob Wallace as executive editor for its Telecom Division.

He will be part of the company’s editorial strategy team and will be spearheading special projects for the company’s growing Web properties, including its Web sites (www.xchangemag.com and www.phoneplusmag.com), Webinars, electronic newsletters and new eBook series.

Wallace joins the company after 20 years as an editorial director, consultant and writer at telecom and IT industry publications. Most recently he was editor in chief for Telecommunications Magazine where he was responsible for the publication’s editorial strategy, the launch of its Web site and creation of its Webinar program, its first e-mail newsletter and the TelecomU conference at GLOBALCOMM 2006.

Previously, he was senior editor covering communications services and internetworking for InformationWeek as well as senior editor covering networking and telecommunications for Computerworld. He began his work with trade publications as a charter member of the launch team for Network World in 1986.

Wallace has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University’s School of Public Communication.

“Bob has a long history in trade publishing and the telecom industry that makes him an ideal addition to the Virgo team,” said Group Publisher Mike Saxby. “He has a reputation for being a hard-hitting reporter and also an innovative content developer – both of these are qualities that will be put to good use as we continue to develop our publications to meet the needs of a changing industry and publishing environment.”

Initially, Wallace will concentrate his efforts on xchange, a trade journal that is celebrating 10 years covering the competitive communications market with a focus on strategies, technology and regulation for facilities-based service providers. Beginning this week, xchange readers can check out his blog about service provider strategies on the xchange Web site at http://www.xchangemag.com/blogs/telecom/blogdefault.aspx.

"These service providers face new and daunting challenges from within and outside the traditional telecom industry," said Wallace. "I look forward to working with the Virgo team to direct its powerful content assets to best address these operators' business and technology information needs," said Wallace.

xchange is a monthly magazine for facilities-based service providers offering voice, data, wireless, IP and content. Its seasoned editorial staff does more than simply report on industry news; they dig beneath the surface to provide analysis on what new equipment, services, regulatory activities and other new developments mean to xchange’s readers. The publication has a monthly IPTV supplement called On the Tube and other eBooks; an annual print and online buyer’s guide; a companion Web site, www.xchangemag.com; a weekly newsletter, xchange xtra; and it hosts Webinars on a periodic basis.
