Pueblo, CO (PRWEB) October 13, 2006 -- Jan Oliver, well known for both her paintings of Saints and of the Southwest, was recently selected as cover artist for the Summer 2006 edition of Tradicion Revista-a prestigious publication featuring Spanish Colonial art and other art found in the Hispanic Southwest.
Tradicion Revista is published by LPD Press (www.nmsantos.com) - a major publisher of books covering the devotional arts of the Southwest. Her painting entitled "Our Lady of Guadalupe" is a contemporary interpretation of the familiar icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The work, which is almost five feet tall, acrylic on canvas, is part of a private collection but can be viewed on her web site at www.janoliver.com.
"My goal is to share a message of peace with the world through my works. The unique qualities of icons or “Santos”, as they are called in the Southwest, is something that is immediately recognizable by people around the world. I feel this intrinsic quality is the spirit of love that is imbued in the work during its creation and it is my hope that my works also convey that same message of love. My work is for me part of my own devotional practice of faith and is also homage to the wonderful Santeros and Santeras of this region. I am truly honored to have my work presented in this venue with so many other gifted artists."
Jan Oliver's works can be viewed in the upcoming "Own Your Own" show at the Sangre De Cristo Art Center and Museum which opens November 15th from 5-8 PM in Pueblo, Colorado. Additional works can be viewed on her web site at www.janoliver.com.
