M5 Data (http://www.m5data.com), near-line data management specialist, is previewing its ‘Richmond’ range of data storage libraries at Storage Expo 2006. Participating in Launchpad Europe’s Launch Zone, M5 Data is using the event as an opportunity to meet with press, analysts and to introduce themselves to the reseller community and the global market.

M5 Data’s new Richmond range of tape libraries incorporates its latest Ultra D technology, which delivers world beating scalability, density and affordability. The libraries are designed for businesses experiencing rapid growth in data. For SME’s and emerging vertical markets with mid-range data storage requirements, the range offers unrivalled cartridge data density, supporting market leading LTO tape drives.

M5’s Ultra D technology features a unique patented robotics system with an innovative vertical lift mechanism which eliminates the requirement for any weights or counterbalances, yet is simple, reliable and effective. Fully scalable, from 50 to 200 tape cartridges, and in the future expandable to up to 500 slots, the Richmond is designed and manufactured in Wells, Somerset, ensuring excellent quality and reliability.

Leading reseller Viglen is already convinced by the potential of the M5 Data range, and is keenly anticipating the launch of the Richmond product line, due in Q1 2007. Rick Terry, General Manager of Storage at Viglen said: “At Viglen, we pride ourselves on offering state of the art, leading technologies to our customers. As soon as we discovered the unique way that M5 Data were automating their tape management, we knew that this was something that would deliver real benefits to our customers.” M5 Data products will only be available via resellers and as a result, the company anticipates considerable interest at Storage Expo from the reseller and solutions provider communities.

Eric Lowe, M5 Data’s Director of Marketing, commented: “Our dedicated development team has been together for many years, with a solid track record in storage solutions. As M5 Data, we are ready to launch our first product line into the international marketplace. When Viglen committed to working with us, our key skills of mechanical design expertise, firmware and hardware design and product management were key to cementing the deal. Now, we’re looking forward to Storage Expo, and adding one or two specialist solution provider resellers to our team in the very near future.”

Dr. Duke Ebenezer, Chief Executive of M5 Data, observed: “I am confident that this exciting range will project our company to the forefront of near-line data storage worldwide.”
