Family Continues Work on Moog Memorial Foundation

The Foundation is just a few weeks old, but is gaining supporters and donors, and looks forward to a future role in the world of electronic music, providing scholarships, competitions and building a Moog Museum in Asheville, NC. This is both a commitment to the spirit of innovation which guided Bob Moog's visionary development of the synthesizer, as well as a personal mission for Michelle Moog-Koussa and her siblings to pay tribute to their father.

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) October 14, 2006 -- In just six weeks, The Bob Moog Memorial Foundation for Electronic Music has announced their ambitious plan to honor Bob Moog’s remarkable legacy, established a legal non-profit status, recruited volunteers—including an intern--and committed to a multiple-year fundraising effort. The Foundation is now ready to seek support from the music industry while continuing outreach to friends, family and the public.

Since August 21 2006, over 6,000 people from all over the world have visited http://moogfoundation.org, the Foundation’s new web site. Over 1,100 copies of the first of many Moog Foundation podcasts have been downloaded; free distribution across the Internet means that many thousands will hear the message and the music. Several generous donors have provided funding to get the Foundation off the ground; more help is needed.

The Foundation has these aims:

To create a Bob Moog Memorial Museum, educational and interactive, open to students, academic researchers and historians, and fans of all types of music.

To endow scholarships in audio engineering at Cornell University in New York, the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, all of whom were important in Bob Moog’s academic life.

To create outreach programs in musical discovery and creative self-expression for disadvantaged children in public schools.

To promote special musical events and competitions in remembrance of Bob Moog, to bring together musicians in community and to foster further innovation.

We invite you to contact Michelle Moog-Koussa, the director of the Foundation and one of Bob Moog’s children, to learn her vision on how the Moog Foundation will “make waves”.

Practically every genre of music around the world, over more than 40 years, has been impacted and revolutionized by the sounds of Moog synthesizers. Many others built on Bob Moog’s seminal work, and it is fair to say that the whole range of electronic musical instruments in use today can trace their origins to Bob Moog and his innovations.

Dr. Bob Moog, music industry pioneer and developer of the electronic musical instruments that bear his name, died in August, 2005.

The Bob Moog Memorial Foundation is not affiliated with Moog Music, Inc., although we are good friends. Formed by Bob Moog’s surviving family, the Foundation is pursuing registration as a 5012(c)3 non-profit organization in the United States. Contact the Bob Moog Foundation at PO Box 8136 Asheville, North Carolina 28814-8136, United States of America.
