Gibraltar (PRWEB) October 15, 2006 -- PartyPoker.com is pleased to announce that the cream of the world’s German speaking poker talent are gathering in London next week for the first ever German Open, with heats kicking off on Tuesday 17th October at the Poker Den in London.
36 top German speaking poker players and celebrities are competing for a total prize pool of 117,000 euros with first place receiving 50,000 euros. The buy in to the tournament is 2,500 euros – PartyPoker.com is adding the rest of the prize money.
Making up the ‘celebrity’ table on October 17 at the Poker Den in London are Uli Stein, Ramon Vega, Lou Richter, Klaus Baumgart and Rudiger Abramczik. The winner of this heat will win a place in the main tournament and take on the pros. Amongst the professional poker names to look out for are Edward Scharf, Michael Keiner and Lothar Landeaur, all players who have had success around the world at poker’s biggest events. Others have honed their skills online at PartyPoker.com and this will be their first chance to experience the live poker environment.
A PartyPoker.com spokesman said: “It gives us great pleasure to create the first ever event for German speaking players – we’re sure it is going to be a great success and hope it becomes an annual event. Germany hasn’t previously had an event like this though their players are amongst the most skilled and enthusiastic in the world.”
“One player to look out for is veteran German international goalkeeper Uli Stein, who showed you don’t have to be a pro to gain great success in the game. He almost single-handedly took Germany to the final of the Football and Poker Legends Cup in the summer and will be particularly well remembered for the way he destroyed an England team that featured top pros Devilfish, Ian Frazer and football legend Alan Ball. Uli has shown himself to be an opponent no poker player wants to go all-in against. He’s a big guy who holds big cards!”
The event is being filmed for television by Matchroom Sports.
