Winning the Battle Over War: A Personal Look
Author Charles Rehbein reflects upon the historical and individual repercussions of World War II in his personal story, "Ugartsthal, September 1, 1939."
Cranston, RI (PRWEB) October 15, 2006 -- Born in 1925, Charles Rehbein was just 14 when he was torn from a peaceful childhood in the German farming village of Ugartsthal, Poland, and sent to a Russian slave labor camp. In "Ugartsthal, September 1, 1939," Rehbein reflects on the atrocities he witnessed and overcame, making a bold statement to anyone whose life has been touched by war.
Rehbein’s faith in God sustained him through starvation, cold, imprisonment and separation from his family. Now a successful businessman able to reflect upon his childhood experiences, he addresses the atrocities committed by Germans, Poles and Russians toward Jews and other refugees.
This valuable story discusses issues of history and questions of morality, making it appropriate on both personal and academic levels. Readers, students and teachers will more clearly understand the personal and global repercussions of war, and those who have been affected by war firsthand will certainly relate.
