Voices Of Drug Awareness Rings Across The Nation

United in spreading the message of hope

(PRWEB) October 15, 2006 -- October 23rd will mark the beginning of a week long series of events and activities across the United States that are part of one of America’s most observed drug prevention awareness campaigns each year, “Red Ribbon Week.” This year organizers anticipate that an estimated 80 million Americans will participate in events across the nation in observance of Red Ribbon Week. What many Americans don’t know is that one of the driving forces behind the creation of this event 20 years ago was an effort to memorialize the ultimate sacrifice made by DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena who was kidnapped and brutally murdered in the line of duty by drug traffickers in Mexico in March of 1985.

“Agent Camarena’s death was a sobering reminder to us all that the “War on Drugs” is not just a metaphor used by our government and heads of state to detour people from abusing drugs; it is a hard reality that makes us recognize we are at war against drugs and that more Americans have lost their lives to drug and alcohol addiction then the combined casualties of all wars in American history. There is no greater threat to our way of life and the security of our country then drug and alcohol addiction”, said J.T. Daily, a drug education specialist for Narconon Arrowhead, one of the country’s leading drug rehabilitation groups who actively support Red Ribbon Week each year.

Red Ribbon Week has evolved into one of the country’s most popular drug prevention awareness campaigns, and while Agent Camarena’s untimely death was a tragedy deserving of acknowledgement, Red Ribbon Week has come to represent a time for America to unite and look at what solutions we as Americans do have available to us to win the war on drugs. It is an undeniable truth that drug enforcement alone has not and will not solve the drug crisis in America. If the sacrifices of Agents, like Camarena and many others before and after him were made to protect us against the cartels and pushers were not made in vain, then it is time for Americans to realize the war on drugs must include effective rehabilitation, prevention programs and broad national awareness campaigns if we are to be victorious.

Narconon’s Daily, a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor
and enthusiastic supporter of Red Ribbon week, is very outspoken when he talks about solutions to America’s drug problem. After successfully beating drug addiction himself through completing the highly effective Narconon drug rehabilitation program, Daily decided to help others steer clear of drug addiction and after an extensive training program became a Drug Education Lecturer and Specialist. Over the last 5 years, J.T. has delivered drug education lectures, workshops and seminars to nearly 200,000 youth nationally. “I can tell you for a fact when you present accurate understandable information to people about drugs and drug addiction and offer real help, hope is restored and people realize that something can be done about the problem. From there most will become motivated to contribute and support anti drug efforts like Red Ribbon Week or programs like Narconon and that’s how we will win this war.”
