WinScribe’s Digital Dictation solution uses first-of-its kind technology to help law firms reduce hardware and telephone costs.

VoIP technology has changed the way the world talks, and now we’ve used that same technology to change the way attorneys dictate

WinScribe a world-leading provider of digital dictation software, today announced that attorneys now have the ability to dial into its digital dictation systems through their firms’ VoIP infrastructures to cost-effectively create, edit and review dictation, as well as record conference calls or other conversations for voice archiving.

The new IP-based dictation process offered by WinScribe helps law firms reduce operating costs tied to the purchase of dictation hardware and traditional toll-call charges for dictations, particularly from satellite offices or off-site locations.

Firms that run a WinScribe dictation system on their IP-based PBXs don’t need to invest in dictation hardware such as handheld microphones or digital portables as they can simply use their IP-desktop telephones or softphones to record dictations. Softphones are applications that run on PCs or notebooks and allow users to make IP-based calls with a headset. Attorneys can also use a Blackberry or other PDAs to call into the WinScribe system and record dictation.

“VoIP technology has changed the way the world talks, and now we’ve used that same technology to change the way attorneys dictate,” said Matthew Weavers, chief executive officer of WinScribe. “We’ve given attorneys to the ability to dictate from just about anywhere without having to make major investments in dictation equipment or IT infrastructure.”

Weavers added that the burgeoning acceptance of VoIP among businesses has led to a demand for complementary services that extend the functionality of business’ IP infrastructures.

For its part, WinScribe’s digital dictation solution is the first of its kind to allow law firms to effectively leverage their VoIP infrastructures by integrating its digital dictation solution with Intel’s Host Media Processing (HMP) software for VoIP applications.

The new IP-based dictation solution from WinScribe helps law firms streamline their IT operations and maximize the return on investment they receive from their VoIP systems.
