Relegent working through Touro Infirmary’s Foundation, today announced an effort to distribute health curriculum to 141 schools affected by Hurricane Katrina. Touro, a Discovery Hospital partner of Relegent, will present K-12 health curriculum to Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. The company’s goal is to donate the HealthTeacher curriculum to the New Orleans area Public, Charter, and Recovery District Schools affected by Hurricane Katrina thereby adding health curriculum as a standard to the rebuilding process.

“Our mission is to help people live healthier lives,” said J. Tod Fetherling, president of Relegent. “We believe by providing a comprehensive health curriculum to those schools impacted and still suffering from Hurricane Katrina, we can impact the health status of these young people for generations to come.

HealthTeacher is a leading K-12 comprehensive health education curriculum that meets the National Health Education Standards and addresses CDC’s top six health risk areas. HealthTeacher is a comprehensive resource for teachers - providing lesson plans, student handouts, transparency and slide masters, background information, and health news updates. The curriculum is available both online and in print. More than 287 Lesson Plans are built around nine core content areas.

The HealthTeacher curriculum is in use in over 7,000 schools in more than 60 countries. HealthTeacher has been adopted district wide in New York City Public Schools, Chicago Public Schools, State of Delaware, Anne Arundel County, and South Carolina.
