desktopsites Inc. (“desktopsites”), a rapidly emerging leader in access serverware for small and mid-size businesses, is pleased to announce the release of the latest version of Konect. Built entirely on the Microsoft® .NET Framework 1.1, this new version of Konect takes full advantage of web services, an enhanced security model and simplified integration possibilities with the full portfolio of Microsoft’s .NET solutions.

Microsoft .NET is the Microsoft web services strategy to connect information, people, systems, and devices through software. Web Services are discrete units of code that handle a set of tasks and they are revolutionizing how applications talk to other applications—or, more broadly, how computers talk to other computers—by providing a universal data format that lets data be easily adapted or transformed. Based on XML, web services can communicate across platforms and operating systems, regardless of the programming language in which the applications are written.

Microsoft’s .NET vision aligns and supports the vision for Konect. The .NET platform provides businesses with the ability extend and integrate their systems more rapidly and helps them realize the promise of information anywhere, anytime on any device.

“By rebuilding Konect on Microsoft’s .NET Framework, not only have we provided Konect with the basic infrastructure needed to connect information, people, systems and devices but have also logically extended the capabilities of Konect to leverage the benefits of .NET,” explains Alex Bethlehem, President and CEO of desktopsites. “With this version, Konect is now positioned to more easily integrate with and leverage the feature sets of all Microsoft products. The .NET version includes all of the same features as the previous version of Konect and is enhanced by the addition of advanced load balancing features and the ability to support Terminal Services through a Secure Gateway for enhanced security. This development also positions Konect as a Microsoft-based platform upon which new and exciting access applications and uses can be tied into the existing features of other Microsoft technologies. We are already identifying unique integration opportunities with our partners and customers to extend Konect’s capabilities beyond its traditional footprint.”
