San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 19, 2006 -- The Academy of Art University is proud to announce the 11th annual Faculty and Alumni Art Auction. This event reaches out to the community to achieve the school’s 77- year mission of supporting the creativity of emerging artists by giving them the tools and means to succeed in their chosen field of art and design.

As in previous years, half of the raised money will benefit students through the University’s Fine Art Student Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are rewarded to top performers at the Academy of Art University’s annual Spring Show across multiple areas of study, from Sculpture to Fashion Design. The remaining proceeds will go to the artists who have contributed their work. Like last year, the Academy is teaming with premier local auctioneers and appraisers, Bonham & Butterfields. Last year, the auction raised $100,000, doubling the previous year’s proceeds.

The faculty participating in this years’ auction include Carolyn Meyer, a Plein-Air landscape artist as well as Assistant Director of the Fine Art Department. Craig Nelson, Director of the School of Fine Art will also be auctioning off some of his works. Director of the School of Sculpture, Peter Schifrin whose work has been commissioned by several cities in the Bay Area, will be donating his talents to the auction as well.

Some participating alumni include BFA Graduate Kevin Moore, a realist painter, will be auctioning his work, which explores the dialogue of our modern lives - fears, hopes and habits. Also selling will be BFA and MFA graduate from the Academy of Art University Tomustsu Takishima, an artist whose inspiration comes from human form and real-life situations.

The Academy of Art University invites you to explore the best fine art paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and ceramic creations from the finest nationally and internationally recognized artists and make a difference in your community. The doors are open to the public and all are welcome to enjoy.
