Web Traffic Team Launches “The PR Auction” on eBay in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

A marketing firm has committed 80% of the proceeds of its newest marketing project to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

A Maryland entrepreneur, who often takes a different approach to business, has come up with a unique way to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Web Traffic Team owner Anthony Kirlew has turned the focus of his newest marketing campaign, “The PR Auction” on eBay, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. After his wife pointed out to him that almost every major company was “turning pink,” Kirlew wanted to come up with a way for his company to help. His company, Web Traffic Team, specializes in helping businesses grow by leveraging the Internet. According to Kirlew “the only thing (pink) we could have done was make our web site pink for the month and that didn’t sound exciting.”

As an avid eBay user, he knew that eBay had sold some of the most ridiculous things from its web site including a sandwich allegedly half eaten by Britney Spears. With that in mind, the company was preparing to launch “The PR Auction” as a means of generating it’s own press (and revenue). Noting that for many small companies in competitive arenas, profit margins are tighter due to competition, Kirlew was determined to find a way to be involved that would not impact the company’s bottom line. He made the decision to devote at least 80% of the auction proceeds to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, leaving funds to cover their costs associated with the auction and delivery of the product. The winner of this unique auction will receive “their day in the news” according to the auction, which is a PR campaign focusing on them or their business. And yes, the auction is pink.
