Bone Daddy’s House of Smoke Supports Education Through “Food for Thought” Fund Drive October 22-28; Diners That Donate $27 Receive a Gift Card for a Free Appetizer

Bone Daddy’s House of Smoke in North Dallas is launching its first annual week long fund drive October 22 - 28 to support local education through the North Texas chapter of the nationwide “Learning for Life” program. A division of Boy Scouts of America, Learning for Life provides schools with educational programs that go beyond academics to focus on character building, decision-making skills and other life skills needed to handle the complexities of contemporary society.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 21, 2006 -- On October 22, the Bone Daddy’s House of Smoke barbeque restaurant in North Dallas launches its first annual week long fund drive to support local education through the North Texas chapter (Circle Ten Council) of the nationwide “Learning for Life” program. A division of Boy Scouts of America, Learning for Life provides schools with educational programs that go beyond academics to focus on character building, decision-making skills and other life skills needed to handle the complexities of contemporary society.

During the “Food for Thought” fund drive October 22 - 28, 2006, Bone Daddy’s will be providing patrons with information about the Learning for Life program, and patrons can make tax-deductible donations on-site at the restaurant. Bone Daddy’s will match up to $1,000 raised during that week. Bone Daddy’s House of Smoke is located near the southwest corner of Spring Valley Road and US Highway 75, just north of I-635.

“There are several reasons why we felt this particular cause is important to not only the local community, but to the DFW restaurant community in general,” said Bone Daddy’s Founder and CEO, Mike Leatherwood. “According to the National Restaurant Association, 42% of the United States adult population at some point has worked in the restaurant industry. For many young people, their first jobs in the ‘real world’ are working at a restaurant. Programs like Learning for Life help students prepare for ‘real world’ jobs such as ours, by teaching them how to interview, fill out job applications, and begin developing management and leadership skills.

“By participating in this program, we hope to help local students become more familiar with our industry, while helping Learning for Life raise the funds needed to continue their good work,” Leatherwood continued. “This will be our first year to host this fund drive, which will occur during one week in October from now on. We’re hoping other local restaurants will follow our lead and launch their own ‘Food for Thought’ fund drives.”

Bone Daddy’s worked with local Learning for Life Cedar Ridge District Executive Cherita Clemons to organize the “Food for Thought” fund drive. “We’ve never before worked with a restaurant company on an initiative like this and are very excited about this opportunity,” Clemons said. “It costs an average of $27 per student per school year to fund our programs. With Bone Daddy’s help, hopefully we can meet our annual goal of $25,000 so that we can continue to provide our Learning for Life programs to at-risk schools throughout the Metroplex.”

FREE APPETIZER GIFT CARD
To encourage donations, Bone Daddy’s will give each patron that donates the $27 needed to support one student for one year a gift card that can be redeemed for a free appetizer on a future visit.
