PEEK-OPTIMA Polymer Selected Over UHMWPE Because of its High Strength and Resistance to Gamma Radiation

Invibio®, a leading provider of biomaterial solutions to the medical device market, today announced Neomedic International S.A. has selected PEEK-OPTIMA® polymer to replace ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), in its “Mr. System” Male Urinary Incontinence System.

PEEK-OPTIMA polymer will replace UHMWPE in the application’s spreader bars, which maintain full extension of the sub-urethral sling under tension. Neomedic selected PEEK-OPTIMA polymer because of its unique combination of strength, light weight, gamma radiation tolerance and proven biocompatibility. In addition, it is easier to machine in the manufacturing process compared to other materials.

Neomedic International’s Mr. System is the first and only implantable male urinary incontinence system that enables physicians to easily and painlessly adjust the urethral support level externally, whenever a physical change leads to a new urinary incontinence situation, assuring long-term continence control. In contrast, other conventional systems require a second surgery in order to adjust the application internally.

The key technology of the male Remeex Mr. System is a re-adjustable sling that gives the surgeon full control over the urethral support level for every individual patient. Placement is done in a simple, minimally invasive surgery. Neomedica’s RemeexTRT prosthesis for female urinary incontinence has been successfully implanted since 1992, with excellent results.
