New Historical Novel Teaches Young Adult Readers About the Controversy of War

Inspired by author Lynmar Brock’s Quaker ancestry and naval service, "Must Thee Fight" introduces readers to internal conflict in wartime.

Newtown Square, PA (PRWEB) October 22, 2006 -- "Must Thee Fight," Lynmar Brock’s new historical fiction for young adults, examines the origins of a familiar theme: the controversy of war. Just as wars of the past century have engendered conflict between those who believe peace is paramount and those who believe freedom must be fought for and won, so, too, did the American Revolution -- in particular for the Quakers of Pennsylvania, whose religion demands peace and simplicity of life.

The novel’s protagonist, Thomas Pratt, struggles with the most difficult decision of his life as a young Quaker and colonist -- fight for his country or adhere to his pacifist beliefs -- even as he faces the normal trials of everyday life in the 1700s. The complex yet everyday decisions Thomas faces will appeal to a wide range of young adult readers.

A Quaker himself, Lynmar Brock also faced the conflict between personal beliefs and his decision to serve in the Navy, enabling him to adroitly handle the controversy surrounding Thomas’ decision to fight. Historical details and rich description combine to make "Must Thee Fight" a well-rounded tale for teenage readers and all lovers of history.
