A Tale of Emotional and Environmental Devastation
Ilinda Markova's latest novel, "The Bastard: From Chernobyl With Love," tells an unforgettable story of brutalized and lovable children.
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (PRWEB) October 22, 2006 -- "The Bastard: From Chernobyl With Love," Ilinda Markova's latest book, is a shocking and yet tender novel about abused, neglected children and angry monsters, trying to find life and love in an ecological wasteland.
This inventive story focuses on a 9-year-old boy, Lillian, and his relationship with a dwarf lake monster, Kissy, who intends to kill people. Despite their clear differences, they share a hatred for the people who have ruined their world, and eventually grow to love each other. Yet their relationship with one another, and with their friends, is challenged by the treacherous waters of trust, devotion, betrayal and emotional pain.
Outcasts of a society that cares more for material progress than sustainable living, Lillian and Kissy have a bizarre but intriguing circle of friends: Children from the so-called "Home for Chernobyl," victims of radioactive rape of the earth, survive as best they can. They gain the trust and protection of Duchess, a woman with mysterious powers; Ziggy, a grunge philosopher; and Judy, an artist of drawings on breath-fogged windows. Despite their physical deformities, the children form a creative, enthusiastic and lovable gang of misfits.
As vulnerable as the planet upon which they live, Ilinda Markova's bitingly drawn children and monsters must join together to survive in a world of irresponsible adults and environmental brutality.
