Chicago GSB MBA Alumni Leader Announces Networking Portal
After waiting over five years for the University of Chicago GSB MBA Alumni Association to provide a much needed message board, David Dalka launches independent Chicago GSB MBA alumni message board and portal. Dalka also calls on Business Week to update business school ranking algorithym to meet new realities.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 22, 2006 - University of Chicago GSB MBA alumni David Dalka announced a new message board today: http://www.daviddalka.com/chicago
Dalka stated, "I've waited five years for the creation of worldwide 24/7 online networking that would bring transparency and effective connectivity to the worldwide Chicago GSB MBA alumni community, but Chicago GSB Dean Ted Snyder and his alumni department has failed to meet the need despite repeated requests from several alumni around the world. I do not want to wait the rest of my life, Chicago GSB MBA alumni deserve better. Chicago GSB Alumni deserve 20th century networking tools in the 21st century. The Chicago GSB should apply these tools immediately to the portal and remove barricades between students, employers and alumni."
In other Chicago GSB news, This past week Crain's Chicago Business released Business school rankings. They chose to rank Chicago GSB #2 to Northwestern. Why? To quote the Crain's article, "The GSB also declined to provide e-mail addresses of its alumni; therefore, they did not participate in our survey." One might wonder why. There are many reasons, but I want to give the Chicago GSB one more chance to properly reset priorities, budget, resources and mandate properly before doing so. The Chicago GSB is not a growth institution anymore, it's in a mature industry and must change significantly to meet these 21st century realities. Chicago GSB Dean Ted Snyder claims to want to build the best business school on all dimensions. There is certainly a ways to go in terms of alumni connectivity, community and creating equal access to all in the Chicago GSB to all career paths and changes one may desire.
The new message board at http://www.daviddalka.com/chicago is set up as a private community set to no follow for search engines, so under normal circumstances comments will not be indexed, but just to be safe don't post anything your wouldn't want your Mom to read and be nice to everyone, that is what the forum is there for! Please invite other Chicago GSB MBA alumni to the board after you have joined and thank you for listening, I look forward to creating value together!
In the same regard, Dalka would also like to challenge Business Week to change it's rating system for it's next survey from half current students and half recruiters to a more appropriate mix. A true measure of a business school is the lifetime value it brings to one who chooses to attend. Therefore, the mix to rate a business school should become one third alumni, one third current students and one third recruiters. There is a blog post on my blog with suggestions about the type of metrics that MBA schools should be judged on in terms of alumni. Lastly, if a school has both a full time and a part time program, both sets of alumni should be considered together as they should have always received the same level of service. The media has a responsibility to make these changes as they are the drivers that create flawed incentives. The days of someone getting a role in business school and staying at the same place for twenty years are over. The best MBA schools in the 21st century will be there adding value throughout your lifetime.
Additionally, Dalka would like to call on firms worldwide to revamp recruiting processes such that the most qualified candidates based on competencies, not keywords, not just current students are always considered. Many top MBA alumni from the 2001-2003 graduation years are underutilized in society.
