How do you follow up a wildly successful Zombie Walk in Pittsburgh? By attempting to set a record for the world’s largest gathering of zombies.
On the decomposed heels of Pittsburgh’s first official Zombie Walk last month, Mark Menold, producer and host of local horror program The It’s Alive Show (airing Saturdays at 10 PM on WBGN), felt compelled to go one better. Menold is organizing an attempt to set a Guinness record for the world’s largest zombie gathering and cement Pittsburgh’s standing as Zombie Capital of the World. The event, sponsored in part by Pittsburgh East Nissan, will take place on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 10 AM at Monroeville Mall, site of George Romero’s classic film, Dawn of the Dead.
Menold is confident that given the success of the Zombie Walk, with unofficial attendance estimates of between 300 and 500 undead, the record attempt should draw quite a crowd. "It's great that it's happening during Halloween season. People are more inclined to wear makeup and have fun acting lifeless and shambling around for a while."
And if you think zombies cause only mayhem, this attempt will dispel that notion. All participants will be encouraged to bring non-perishable food items which will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Zombies of all ages are invited to join in the fun. Assistance with face make up will be available for those who are squeamish about applying it on their own. The event is free but zombies are asked to bring a non-perishable food item.

It’s Alive is a television show produced in the same format as the highly successful Pittsburgh favorite Chiller Theater. Classic horror movies are presented by a talented cast performing comedy and live music. The show is aired Saturday nights at 10:00 PM on WBGN, a local station reaching over one million households. Movie selection and show content appeal to a wide demographic with core viewers being an 18 to 34, predominantly male audience.
