Women may love diamonds, jewelry and flowers, but none of them can hold a candle to a pair of shoes.

The obsession women have for shoes shows no sign of waning. In 2004, American women purchased 819 million pairs of non-athletic shoes, according to the American Apparel and Footwear Assoc. In Britain, a recent survey by fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar revealed one in four women would forgo paying the bills for a pair of designer heels.

The torrid affair between women and their shoes was one of the catalysts for the inventor of HeelStraps, who recently created a revolutionary device that provides comfort and confidence for the woman who loves wearing heels. The product, which can be purchased at HeelStraps.com, is a durable strap that attaches comfortably to strapless heeled shoes of all styles. HeelStraps are available in a clear plastic that's nearly invisible, or in a variety of colors, including black, brown, red and bridal white. Black patent leather and a variety of sexy metallic colors are also available.

If the survey from Harper's Bazaar is any indication, women aren't about to give up their heels. According to the magazine, one of the world's most respected voices on style, half of the 1,000 women surveyed said they owned at least 30 pairs of shoes, and one in eight said they had at least 100 pairs.

"Shoes have an incredible 'Cinderella effect,' " Harper's Bazaar editor Lucy Yeoman told the London Daily Mail in August. "They can transform not only an outfit, but also a woman's mood. … In that sense, shoes are rather magical."

Garcia made some magic of her own with HeelStraps. While high heel shoes are typically uncomfortable, the Costa Rican shoe lover and entrepreneur set her sights on creating the device to solve the age old problem of making high heels more comfortable to wear while walking, dancing or saying "I Do" in front of your fiance.

"I come from a very creative family and I really enjoy coming up with new solutions to everyday problems," said Garcia, whose HeelStraps are latex free and made from the highest quality clear plastic. "The heel slapping of my strapless shoes has always driven me nuts, but I never had the resources to make my idea a reality until I moved to the United States. I am confident women will love their HeelStraps and feel the product is a must-have."
