The next big thing on marketing the 'Net: Book billboards.

Wondering what the next big Internet marketing trend will be? Look no further than the predictions of Internet expert Nancy Hendrickson, whose 20+ years online give her a unique perspective into the evolution of the Internet.

Hendrickson has fun predicting Internet trends -- and she's had a fairly high degree of accuracy. For example, more than a year ago she correctly forecast that the 'Net would embrace more and more offline marketing methods, particularly audio and video. Based on the soaring popularity of MySpace, YouTube, and podcasts, her guess was spot-on.

What's coming now? Hendrickson says, "Think 'Clever Eye Candy,' " in other words, "the Internet will incorporate even more traditional advertising models, particularly those with visual appeal and a touch of wit."

To capitalize on this trend, Nancy began working with in partnership with Author Marketing Experts, Inc. to create Book Billboards. A Book Billboard is a simple one page web site that emulates the look of an actual billboard. Each billboard is created to look like an actual roadside billboard, designed with the tone of the book in mind, and placed on an appropriate roadway.

Each billboard is unique. On some, when the visitor mouses over the billboard, a short synopsis of the book appears. There's also a link to buy the book. Why does Hendrickson think Book Billboards are the next trend? "They haven't been done on the Internet yet; they're totally visual; they can be designed with maximum personality, minimum words; and they visually convey to the reader the theme and feel of your book. Plus, I think they're totally cool," she says.
