Salamanca, Spain (PRWEB) October 27, 2006 -- For the fourth consecutive year, don Quijote, Spain's leading provider of in-country Spanish courses in Spain and Mexico, is offering 20 scholarships to educational institutions presenting innovative plans to promote the learning of the Spanish language. From today until February 28th, 2007, universities, colleges, community colleges and high schools worldwide are invited to present their plans in Fundación don Quijote's fourth annual international scholarship programme.

Each winning institution will select a student to receive the scholarship, which will consist of a 2-week language course at one of don Quijote's schools in Spain or Mexico, including accommodation and cultural activities.

Through the programme, don Quijote aims to:

  • Reward educational institutions going the extra mile to encourage their students to learn foreign languages and Spanish in particular.
  • Create a forum through which educators share great language programme ideas.
  • Provide an opportunity for 20 motivated and deserving students to experience the magic of study abroad.

Announcing the launch of this year's competition, Carmen Cantariño, Director of Sales at don Quijote, commented, "We are delighted by the terrific response we receive to the scholarship competition every year. Last year 208 educational institutions from 49 countries participated in the programme. Response to this programme is a terrific indicator of the growing interest in the Spanish language all over the world, and the passion and creativity of Spanish teachers. We're proud to play a role in the diffusion of innovative ideas in language teaching, and pleased to give 20 deserving students the chance to experience the adventure of in-country language learning."

Programme details and supporting information, including current statistics on the importance of the Spanish language, may be found on the don Quijote Web site at www.donquijote.org/20scholarships. Winners will be announced on the site on March 14th.
