Bargain pricing on all-new central heating and air conditioning systems and installation saves thousands; may be purchased by or for senior citizens age 65 or older

Berkey's Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning is starting the Christmas bargain shopping season now for senior citizens in Tarrant, Dallas, Collin and Denton Counties. Beginning today and continuing through December 24, Berkey's is offering residents age 65 or older any size new, in-stock 10-SEER rated central heating and air conditioning system for $2,995 – a savings of 30-to-40 percent.

Earlier this year manufacturers ceased making equipment with a seasonal energy efficiency rating, or SEER, of 10 when a new federal standard went into effect, but all existing new equipment still can be sold. Most inventories of 10 SEER equipment sold out quickly because this equipment was priced substantially lower than the new, 13 SEER units.

Berkey's purchased a supply of new 10 SEER units and has offered them to the public at substantial savings throughout the year. But, recent purchases of 10 SEER systems by senior citizens inspired President Bill Stevens to offer the remaining units to seniors at even lower prices.

"For people on fixed incomes, replacement of a central heating and air conditioning system can be prohibitively expensive, especially at the prices dictated by the new federal standard," Stevens said. "The packages we are offering include all equipment and installation for brand new central heating and air conditioning systems."

Stevens said that most older residential HVAC systems perform at an efficiency level far below 10 SEER, with many testing out at ratings as low as 2-to-4 SEER. Natural wear and tear accounts for most of the decline, but improper installation also is a problem, as is the fact that some older units had lower efficiency ratings to begin with.

Stevens said the 10 SEER systems will provide efficiency gains of 40-to-60 percent in some cases, and at a price thousands of dollars less than the 13 SEER systems. For example, the $2,995 price represents a savings of nearly 50 percent compared to the price of a five ton, 13 SEER system.

Family or friends of seniors also will get this special pricing if they are purchasing the systems for residents 65 or older. "People who have been thinking about getting a special Christmas gift for their parents may want to consider this," Stevens said. "Having the assurance of new heating and air conditioning equipment would be a wonderful gift, and the prices will never be this low again."
