Capella University PhD Student Participates In National Institute Of Health Festival

Online university student participated in first annual NIH National Graduate Student Research Festival.

MINNEAPOLIS (PRWEB) October 27, 2006 -- Capella University (www.capella.edu) PhD student Gloria D. Jones, M.A., LPC, NCAC II, CCS, presented her doctoral dissertation at the first annual National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Graduate Student Research Festival. The festival was held Oct. 12-13 at the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

Jones is pursuing her PhD in clinical psychology from the Harold Abel School of Psychology at Capella University, an accredited* online university and leader in online education. She presented her dissertation, "Impact of Adolescents' Perceived Need for Therapeutic Assistance for Families on Treatment Outcomes" in a poster session at the festival.

"I was truly overwhelmed by the reception that we received at NIH," Jones said. "I am extremely thankful to my dissertation committee for making me take those extra steps to make my work appealing outside academia."

Jones, who resides in Thomasville, Georgia, has been a member of the Georgia Addiction Counselor Association since 1995, and has served various capacities in the organization. She is also the founder and Executive Director of the Heritage Foundation Inc., an organization that provides services for substance abusers and their families.

The national search for 250 outstanding senior-level candidates to participate in the festival was based on reviews of dissertation abstracts and more than 1,000 abstracts were submitted.
