The Law and Policy Group, Inc. will honor Derrick Bell with the James Baldwin Award on Saturday, November 4, 2006.

Professor Bell who is an acclaimed writer, law professor, and civil rights attorney will receive the award named after James Baldwin, famed writer and activist for social justice. Derrick Bell, the founder of critical race theory, has written over a dozen books on race relations including Faces at the Bottom of the Well, a national best-seller, and Confronting Authority: Reflections of an Ardent Protester.

The Restitution Study Group will receive the Harriet Tubman Award in recognition of their work with slavery reparation issues.

This champagne reception celebrating the contributions of Derrick Bell and the Restitution Study Group will take place at the Contemporary African Art Gallery at 330 West 108th Street (near Riverside Drive) in New York City. Silent auction features African art. The time of this fund-raising event is 6:30pm. Proceeds benefit the Frank Hall, Jr. Scholarship Fund and The Law and Policy Group, Inc. programs.
