Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation Congratulates 2006 Inductees
The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation congratulates veterans selected for induction into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame as members of the Class of 2006.
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) October 29, 2006 -- Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation President Douglas E. Lay extended congratulations on behalf of the foundation's board of trustees to this year's inductees into the hall of fame earlier today.
The foundation will host a private reception in conjunction with the official induction in November. The reception will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Clarion Hotel in Dublin, Ohio. The formal awards, conferred by Governor Bob Taft, will be presented during a public ceremony on Thursday, November 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Franklin County Veterans Memorial, 250 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
"Those inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame represent the very best of us," said Foundation President Lay. "These distinguished men and women continued to tirelessly serve their communities and country honorably and nobly after their time in uniform."
Lay continued, "Ohio has a proud tradition of military veteran leadership in government, business and civic organizations. Our 2006 inductees are indicative of our strong veterans' community which has a tremendous history of accomplishments and contributions to our state and our nation."
Those to be inducted during the public ceremony on November 2 include:
| | - John H. Agenbroad of Springboro, Ohio. Agenbroad is a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran; current Mayor of Springboro; past state commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart; volunteers for the greater Dayton and Cincinnati AFL/CIO food pantry; educates Boy Scouts of America on city government.

| | - Mordecai Bartley (deceased) of Mansfield, Ohio. Bartley was a veteran of the War of 1812 and served in the Army; elected to the Ohio Senate in 1816; served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives; elected the eighteenth Governor of Ohio in 1844; practiced law in Mansfield after 1846.

| | - Dominic V. Belloni (deceased) of Brewster, Ohio. Belloni was an Army veteran; served twenty-five years with the American Legion Buckeye Boys State; owner and operator of Belloni's Foods; past state commander of the American Legion.

| | - William C. Boehm of Olmsted Township. Boehm is an Army World War II veteran; founding director of the Singing Angels which has served to enrich the lives of countless children for over forty-two years; numerous awards from legislators and local veterans organizations.

| | - Erle H. Bridgewaters, Jr. (deceased) of Athens, Ohio. Bridgewaters was an Army World War II veteran; retired Brigadier General in the Ohio Army National Guard; former president of the Ohio Bar Association; recently inducted into the Ohio University Army ROTC Hall of Fame.

| | - George H. Cox of Spencerville, Ohio. Cox is a Marine Corps veteran of Korea; past state commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars; founded the VFW Underprivileged Children's Christmas Party in 1980; as Herbie the Clown has entertained at a multitude of hospitals, nursing homes and schools.

| | - James W. Denver (deceased) of Wilmington, Ohio. Denver was a Mexican and Civil war veteran; in 1857 President Buchanan appointed him as Secretary of the Kansas Territory and was appointed as the Governor later that same year; served as a California State Senator, U.S. Congressman, and U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs; appointed Brigadier General and placed in command of all Federal troops in Kansas by President Lincoln.

Finan is an Army veteran; former Mayor of Evendale, OH; elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1973; elected to the Ohio Senate in 1996 and served as president until his retirement in 2002; member of the University of Dayton Board of Trustees; board member of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation, and many other notable organizations.

Grim is a Air Force veteran of Vietnam; retired after thirty-four years as a social studies teacher with the Miami Trace High School; member of the American Legion; member of the United States Selective Service Board number 15 since being appointed by President George H.W. Bush in 1990.

| | - James E. Hoeh of Cincinnati, Ohio. Erby is an Army veteran of both Korea and Vietnam; board member of the Joseph House; founded the Jeffrey G. Hoeh Memorial Fund in memory of his son lost to cancer, to date this fund has distributed $461,000 to 122 individuals or families who suffer from cancer.

James was a World War II Army veteran; nationally recognized surgeon for research and treatment of oncology patients; The Ohio State University has named a building in his honor; active in and former National President for the American Cancer Society.
- Joseph W. Johnston of Williamsburg, Ohio. Johnston is a veteran of the Army serving during Vietnam and the Persian Gulf; has served thirty-five years with the Boy Scouts; voluntary fireman and EMT; active in many veterans organizations.

Lassiter is a Gulf War Marine Corps veteran; professor of law at the University of Cincinnati, member of the American Bar Association's Committee for Legal Assistance for Military Personnel; active member of many local and state civic and scholastic organizations.

| | - Harold J. Leone of Massillon, Ohio. Leone is an Air Force veteran serving in Korea; committee member for the Veterans Plaza at the Statehouse; involved with the VA hospital in Brecksville; active member of the AARP chapter; assisted with the establishment of the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

| | - Robert R. McMeens, M.D. (deceased) of Sandusky, Ohio. McMeens practiced medicine in Tiffin and served in the Mexican War as a surgeon; co-founded the Erie Medical Society; appointed Medical Director of the 10th Division during the Civil War.
