Entone Technologies, a leading provider of IPTV consumer premise equipment (CPE) solutions, announced today that Consolidated Communications has selected its award-winning Hydra HD™ IP video gateway for their IPTV services.

With approximately 240,000 access lines throughout Illinois and Texas, Consolidated Communications is the 16th largest telephone company in the US. The company has provided telecommunications services to its communities for more than 100 years and now offers a triple-play service bundle of voice, video, and data.

"Installation and equipment costs can make or break the business case for offering IPTV service," stated Doug Abolt, Director, Product Marketing for Consolidated Communications. "By using Entone's Hydra HD IP video gateway, we are able to offer advanced services to our end customers without the costs or installation complexities of putting a set-top box at each television."

Hydra HD is part of Entone's Connected Home Solution that eliminates the need for set-top boxes or new home wiring to deliver IPTV services. Hydra HD is the only IP video gateway available in the market today that can deliver up to three independent video streams – with any combination of SD/HD, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC) signals, over a single DSL or Ethernet connection using existing in-home coax cabling. It supports both SD (480i/480p) and HD (720p/1080i/1080p) signals, as well as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC) and VC-1 compression formats.

Hydra HD's integrated HomePNA 3.0 interface allows for high-speed IP service over existing in-home coax and phone lines. It also has integrated Caller ID features and a built-in ATSC tuner for receiving over-the-air broadcast. Hydra HD also offers full interactivity and a modular personal video recorder (PVR) with up to 1 Terabyte of storage.

"Consolidated Communications has emerged as one of the most progressive and successful operators offering IPTV services today," said Steve McKay, CEO of Entone Technologies. "Entone is pleased to be part of the Consolidated team and we look forward to the continued growth of their service as they launch HD services."

About Entone's Hydra

The Entone award-winning Hydra HD™ is a multi-television IP video gateway that has patent-pending technologies which enable it to support up to three simultaneous television streams and broadband Internet access over existing residential coaxial cabling. It significantly reduces the costs of delivering IP television services to the home.

Whereas previous generations of IP set-top boxes required a separate box for each television in the home, Hydra HD is a single gateway device that can be shared by up to six televisions with any three of them receiving independent, simultaneous video streams. Video delivery within the home takes place over existing coaxial cabling, therefore eliminating the need for extensive new Ethernet wiring required by traditional IP set-top boxes.
