"gg" Returns to The Backlot … With a Guy

"The gg Monologues - a new year and a Good Guy" opens this December.

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) November 1, 2006 -- It was virtually unanimous -- audiences who saw sassy, sophisticated "The gg Monologues" at the Backlot in May 2006 left wanting more. Well, "gg" is delivering. And this time, she is showing a little more edge, and she's introducing audiences to a "Good Guy" as well.

Earlier this year, twelve local actresses gave life to "gg," a character created by Sarasota writer Amy Knapp. Up to that point, "gg" (short for Good Girl) had existed in monthly columns that have been published in print and the Internet since 2002. The columns first gave birth to a line of "gg" merchandise, now sold in boutiques all over the country, before taking "gg" to stage.

Readers and audiences regularly liken the "gg" stories to the popular television show, "Sex and the City." It's a comparison that flatters Knapp, who did not actually see that television show until its original run had officially ended on HBO.

Rather than New York, "gg" is based entirely on and in Sarasota and the women who live and work here. All of the action takes place in a bistro where the characters "show Chef Paul how to cook" (yes, that Chef Paul). In fact, Chef Paul Mattison unwittingly inspired the new "gg" show - Knapp was entranced by a Mattisons.com cooking demonstration of Granny Smith Sorbet when the new idea hit her.

Knapp says the new show "is a tribute to the men and women of Sarasota, the beauty of Sarasota, the originality of Sarasota."

"The gg Monologues - A new year and a Good Guy" is directed by Amanda Schlachter, who also directed the first "gg" show, and it stars Schlachter, Christine Alexander, Pam Karasy, Jane Mason, Rachel Oakes, Angel Parker and David Zietz.
