Local Author Joins Oprah In Supporting Multiple Global Causes

We have all heard of public figures and celebrities investing their time, money and resources to raise awareness and make a difference around the world. With so many serious catastrophes around the world and with busy daily lives, caring Americans wonder how they can possibly make a difference in places so far away. A young local author wondered the same thing. That is, until she became inspired by an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey where she learned about the atrocities that millions of people are suffering in the Darfur region of the African country of Sudan.

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 1, 2006 -- Americans have seen the news: From the near civil war in Iraq to the systematic genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan, we are bombarded with news of the humanitarian crisis and death that many people around the world are suffering, even as we speak.

We have all heard of public figures and celebrities investing their time, money and resources to raise awareness and make a difference around the world. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt on eradicating extreme poverty; Bono on the AIDS epidemic in Africa, Bill Gates on providing health and education where it is needed.

With so many serious catastrophes around the world and with busy daily lives, caring Americans wonder how they can possibly make a difference in places so far away.

A young local author wondered the same thing. That is, until she became inspired by an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show of George Clooney and an organization called Save Darfur (www.savedarfur.org). In just less than an hour, she learned about the atrocities that millions of people are suffering in the Darfur region of the African country of Sudan.

This affected her so deeply that she decided to do something about it. "There are so many injustices happening around the world that it's hard to focus, learn and take action. But after watching the Oprah show about the crisis in Darfur, I realized that if each person does a little, we can make a huge difference," Jovanka Ciares says.

And a difference is what she is making. For every new book sold for the next three months (through January 31, 2007), Jovanka will donate $1.00 of her new book "Don't Blame Eve: A Guide To Live Your Life Your Way" to The Save Darfur Coalition, which raises awareness and help provide humanitarian aid to the people of the Darfur region.

She has already donated some of her personal money to the organization and hopes that she can make an even bigger difference with this new project.

"I am like most Americans: a good, caring person who hears the news about awful things happening to others and feels bad, hopes for the better, prays for their safety and survival. Yet, feeling bad and praying alone was not enough for me. Ultimately, I need to help feed and shelter these people. I needed to take action."

Jovanka Ciares is an author and speaker who teaches women the attitudes, behaviors and skills they need in order to reach their fullest potential. For information call (917)-414-4816 or go to www.self-improvementwoman.com.
